Lots of diaper covers

Aren't they pretty?  I just finished up a big (by my small potatoes scale) order of diaper covers.  Until this batch, I always made them individually, but I found ways to minimize the number of times I switched stitches and feet to streamline the process.   Now I might have to always make multiples!

Tutorial: zippered wet bags

We are so fortunate that our son's daycare takes cloth diapers (so many do not!).  At the start of the week (he only goes three days), I provide clean, folded diapers from our service and a bunch of these wet bags, and each day, they give a full bag of dirty diapers back.  Often, I'll get a second bag of dirty clothes, too.  It's like a gift exchange :)

So I've written extensively about diaper covers already (because, hey, when you have an 8.5 month old, it's a fairly consuming topic), but I've got exciting news to share!  For a long while, I'd been wondering if Little Man was bothered by the bulk in his midsection (between doubled cloth and wide cover).  There's not much I can do about the doubled cloth bit, but the covers I can change.  After measuring my purchased covers, looking at several patterns, and using this tutorial, I have created my own diaper cover design!  With this new and improved version, I've narrowed the wings and lowered the front rise (which increases the back rise).  Little Man doesn't complain much, so I don't know if he enjoys his new cover more than the old, but I think they look a little more streamlined.  I've even put some up for sale at my Etsy site (with more on the way)!

Even more obsessed with diaper covers!

It's been diaper cover-making central around here, spurred on by the fact that Oliver moved up to the next size cloth diaper and his old covers don't fit anymore. I've found a great source for patterns (www.newconceptions.com, Diaper Covers Deluxe), but am still having trouble getting everything I need (no-pill 3/4" fold over elastic, 1" Aplix, and printed PUL) all at the same store. This adorable giraffe printed PUL came from Kids in the Garden.

Our diaper service offers compostable disposable diapers, which we use at night. But they also have these interesting compostable liners, which are like a regular diaper with the wings cut off. The attach to the inside of a waterproof cover with sticky tabs. Since I didn't want the laminated side of the PUL against the baby's skin, I made a special cover lined in flannel. Clearly, these won't work for regular cloth diapering, but it's great for the GroVia soakers.

Obsessed with diaper covers

We are using cloth diapers for our second baby. We tried it out with the first, but our daycare wouldn't use them, so it just didn't make financial sense to cloth diaper only part of the time. Now, as a stay at home mom, we can do it! Clean diapers arrive at our doorstep once a week, however, we have to purchase diaper covers to contain the mess. And those things are expensive! I've been researching cloth diaper cover patterns and materials, and have started making my own. This sweet orange model took 15 minute to make, including cutting the fabric, and cost about $2. I'm also working on knitting a wool soaker, but that's taking considerably longer!
